Week 12: Wrap up; social networks and catch up

Social networking can be used by libraries in a variety of diffeent ways to promote events, clubs and programs. It could also be used to review books and share resources for storytimes.

Its a great way to bring the library to the people especially those who would not usually come to the library.

Week 11: Online applications and tools

Google Docs seems to be a great tool that can be accessed on any internet computer. No more waiting to log into your own computer account.

At Wodonga Library we have been using google docs for public internet bookings.
We have also been looking into how we can use calenders and other shared documents.

Week 9: Podcasts and Audio

Help on podcasts
http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/whatson/downloads/help.html

I listened to -
Books as history
This is an interesting discussion on the changing world of books.
Can we live without books and will traditional book publishing ever become extinct like music records and tapes and what is so special about books and their history.

Podcasting is another way of sharing and producing information. This could be used in the library to cast writer interviews and reviews on library catalogues.

Week 8: Answer boards and social searching

http://answerboards.wetpaint.com/?t=anon

Sort of like state libraries ask a librarian but there are numerous librarians who can answer the question. Forums are a good way to share and discuss ideas.

Videos online week 6

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=MmJh5eqJMK0&feature=related

I had great fun with this topic. Being a cat lover I searched youtube for cat videos. Check out the above link.
I also checked out some the library youtubes.
This tool could be used on library websites as guided tours with different aged borrowers giving the tour. A prescholler for preschoolers, teenager for teens, over 50s for over 50s. each with a different spin on the library.

Wikis week 5

I have explored some wikis. The best know wiki used by librarians would be wikipedia. Depending on what you are looking for and used with caution it can be more usuful than just googling a topic. Library wikis could be a usuful way of sharing authoritive material.

RSS Feeding week 4

http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/imageservices/

I tried at home still could not RSS Feed to this site the share this file does not like my details.
I have a few other feeds to book sites including a feed to the new books on Curtin Uni's library catalogue. This is a great way to keep in touch with whats new. Libraries could really jump on this wagon to share newsletters, discuss the book of the day and keep library members informed.

It could be a great time saver when using the internet as you dont have to go and search for the information as its brought to you.
